Outdoor Learning Terhadap Literasi Numerasi Anak Usia Dini

Ratnasari, E. M.ThufuLA: Jurnal Inovasi Pendidikan Guru Raudhatul Athfal16 November 2020International

In a kindergarten quasi-experiment, outdoor learning had a significant effect on young children's early numeracy literacy.

What's new

This study, published in Indonesian, tested the effect of outdoor learning on early numeracy literacy. In a quasi-experiment with 34 children in group B at TK Restu Bunda kindergarten, one class (B1) was the experimental group and another (B2) the control. Sampling was purposive and data were analysed with t-tests. The authors report a significant effect of outdoor learning on children's numeracy literacy.

Why it matters in Aotearoa

This is a reminder for New Zealand early childhood and junior primary teachers that outdoor play can be planned to support early maths, alongside wider learning.

Putting it into practice

Plan an outdoor session where young children count, sort and compare natural objects, and note the maths language they use.

How strong is the evidence

A small quasi-experiment comparing two classes at one kindergarten, with purposive sampling. The abstract does not describe the outdoor activities or how numeracy was measured.
