In and out of place: exploring the discursive effects of teachers' talk about outdoor education in secondary schools in New Zealand
Interviews with eight NZ secondary outdoor education teachers show adventure and learning discourses sit side by side in how they talk.
What's new
The inquiry analyses interview transcripts from eight outdoor education teachers at New Zealand secondary schools. Different discourses co-exist: a dominating discourse of adventure is associated with sub-discourses of risk and safety, pursuit-based activities, and skill and assessment, while a discourse of learning connects to environment, sustainability and social critique.
